Moving Toward a “Bionic” Reality………

Well I got home form the hospital yesterday with a seemingly successful Heart Pacemaker surgery.  Surgery was a breeze, but the left shoulder is quite sore.  The only bad part is lifting only 10 pounds for 4 weeks, 2 weeks no driving and no showers (looks like sits baths and chauffeurs).  So now lets see what artificial parts I have:  Electronic Pacemaker, Mechanical Aortic Heart Valve, and a synthetic (plastic or nylon or something like that) Ascending Aorta, a laser “mazed” heart but at least one real biological feature of a single Heart-By-Pass.  Only God knows what is next.  Sheesh, it hurts just writing it down.  Maybe I’ll soon get back to writing some posts so you can jump back down my throat, but try and avoid the left shoulder for a couple more weeks, okay?  Anyway, have a Merry Christmas and HNY………………from NSL

P.S. Headed back to the Southern Command on Jan. 5th.

A Good Man is Gone

sspx0032.jpg It is with great sadness that I must pass along that my Brother-In-Law Gayle died yesterday morning (7/25/07) while playing with his son in the water behind their Summer home on Lake Leelanau near Traverse City, Michigan.  He had a sudden and unexpected heart attack and never really resuscitated at all.  He turned 57 last month.

Gayle was the founder and head of the law firm Arnold, Todaro & Welch in Columbus, Ohio.  He was his high school class Valedictorian.  He holds a Bachelors Degree from Taylor University, a Master of Arts in Education from Ball State University and a Juris Doctor degree from the Notre Dame Law School.  He was arguably the best medical malpractice defense lawyer in a multi-state area.  I really don’t think there would be much argument about that however.  Gayle leaves his wife Susie (my sister) and six children (including three step-children).

Gayle was a terrific guy and Christian father and will be sorely missed by all those that know and love him.  The first pic above was taken when we had dinner together this past Thursday night 7/19/2007.  It was taken with my new cell phone as I was updating the caller ID with photos.  [since it is easier to look at pictures to see who is calling rather than read the fine print with my aging eyes.]  God’s speed Gayle……………

Train a Child in the Way He Should Go …. (Prov 22:6)

ian.jpgkathleen.jpg  I was given the high privilege this past weekend of participating in my Grandchildren’s (Ian & Kathleen) first lesson on Finances.  We went to the bank with their mother and set up a savings account in each of their names with the money that they have accumulated in savings lately (about 40 to 50 dollars each).  We are going to be talking with them about savings versus spending and certain incentives such as matching funds for a period of time and some of the fundamentals of money and banking.  I noticed today an article in the local paper that I am going to insert in whole (until they tell me to take it down) from MarketWatch that I think has some very good points about starting kids out with learning about money.    Read more

Susan’s Medical

steve-susan-hawaii-small-sample.jpg Thanks for all the comments and phone calls and email about our situation here.  I really haven’t had time to blog but wanted to post an update.  Susan is doing real well and here face will heal perfectly I believe.  She is currently experiencing some swelling from bruising of her spinal cord, but no brake or fractures.  She is in the hospital receiving steroids for a couple of days to reduce the swelling.  She previously had some calcification of her spine and that causes a narrowing of the spinal cord column.  She has known that someday she will probably need surgery to relive and this is another wake up call in that direction, but they want the trauma from the current accident to heal first.

For those of  you that don’t know the story, she fell about 10:30 PM Sunday in our home and her face took the brunt of the damage when it hit the corner/edge of the door at the door jam when she fell with an associated whiplash type of situation.

She is experiencing the “feeling” of burnt hands from the pressure on her spinal cord.  The doctor said that I could take a couple of months to go away, but the good new is that it will.  Her spirits are great and she has no pain from the fall, but I suppose you wouldn’t either if you were taking what they are giving her.  Thanks so much for you love, concern and prayers.  Please continue to pray for the pressure on her spinal cord to abate. We think she will come home tomorrow or Thursday.  As for me my heart situation isn’t all that bad, just a management issue right now.     ………..stevereenie

UPDATE  (5/2/07):  I brought Susan home from the hospital today.  She is doing well and resting.  It will be a bit for all the booboos totally abate, but they will.  We are currently planning on heading to our southern headquarters for about 6 weeks on the 14th………..stevereenie

UPDATE  (5/4/07):  Susan continues to improve.  She is experiencing some numbness on the skin of her right leg, but the Neurosurgeon assures this will pass in 6-7 weeks.  The burning sensation of her hands is improving and she had a lower front tooth capped today.  In short she seems to be better with each passing hour.  Thanks for all your inquiries, concerns and prayers. ……………stevereenie
