Such Geniuses in the World of Rock
UPDATE: Well now that the concert is over lets examine what profundity was uttered by Sir Elton.
“I never cease to be amazed at the misogynist attitude of some of the people in this country,” he said. “I say to hell with them.”
And to you your royal fruitcake, I say the hell with you. First you are so arrogant to scold America for being racist since they didn’t vote for the Black American Idol contestant, but notwithstanding your obvious personal racism for not backing Obama, you call Americans misogynist because they aren’t supporting the girl………HRc. Maybe I am bit a misogynist myself because I think you are a fruit fly.
I have personally always felt that voluntary contributions of talent by performers to a political candidate were “in kind” political contributions and were illegal if such value exceeded any individual limit imposed by law. Now Elton John is under fire concerning his participation in a “fund raising” concert on behalf of HRc. Is it not clear that Elton John could afford to make a Million Dollar donation to her campaign if it were legal? What is the difference if the source of that illegal contribution would have been (obviously) his performance income versus just skipping the direct payment to himself (and the related income taxes) and having the money go to HRc. He has produced and controlled the contribution and also avoided tax on the proceeds in effect making this political contribution tax deductible. (Don’t try this at home yourself)
Mr. John’s problems actually are of a slightly different aspect here in that this (indirect) contribution comes from a foreign national, something that is a no no in U.S. Presidential Politics, though the Clinton’s have been caught often receiving funds from dubious foreign sources. It seems that there is adequate precedent in the Federal Election Commission’s prior rulings in this area as covered in this Washington Times article HERE.

Hi Steve,
Good to see you posting again.
As to campaign donations, it’s been my theory for some time now that we should allow anyone from anywhere to give as much as they want, and that half the money should go to the Federal Government where it would have to be used to pay off debt. I’m even open to the notion that we allow citizens to cast extra votes, at $1,000 each, with the income being used the same way. After all, it’s not like the Evil Rich won’t always find ways to spend their money attempting to influence elections, so at least we should find ways to put that cash to a better use than flooding the air waves with political ads.
Hi Grit………Thanks for the warm greeting. Been busy with Medical in Dec-Jan and compiling tax returns thereafter. We’re back in Ohio for a while (till early May) to wrap up some tax work and see the grandkids. You do have a point here. Voting without being a “stakeholder” in the country can lead to some pretty distorted and unhealthy results.

of course you already know that hypocricy is a badge of honor in hollywood land.
Hi Steve,
Taxes! We don’t need no stinking taxes!
Stay safe and save up your energy for the Democrat Convention. It’s looking to be a blogger’s dream come true.

But nowhere else though…
Typed that as a response to H.J. … Submitted it to find that Grit grabbed my place in line… Realize that my response also applies to what he wrote.
hypocricy is rampant everywhere.
it just isn’t tolerated in most places the way it is for the entertainers of the world.
You tell em’ Heidi Jo!
I think Elton is the type that always has to be moaning and groaning about something or someone, it seems his nature. What a sad little man.
Hey STeve,
Good points, all. The thing about Europeans that drives me crazy is their opinionated opionions about our politics. We don’t go nosing into their affairs, yet they feel perfectly at home nosing into ours.
Of course the irony is that if we racist Americans hadn’t bought all his records and made him a millionaire, he’d be just another queen at Piccadilly Square, wouldn’t he?
