Quotes of the Year - 2007
I found interesting and wanted to pass along a list compiled by Fred R. Shapiro, editor of the Yale Book of Quotations as the “most memorable” quotes of 2007. This is a good list, but I would quibble with the order of ranking. To me his #10 is clearly the number one quote of the year. Find out why HERE. Hope you find this interesting and returns your thoughts to events of this past year.
-
- “Don’t Tase Me, Bro” Andrew Meyer UF student as he was being hauled away by campus police during speech by Sen. John Kerry (Tin Soldiers and Kerry Coming…………)
- “I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and I believe that our education like such in South Africa and Iraq and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for us.” Lauren Upton, Miss Teen USA contestant from SC when asked why one-fifth of Americans cannot find the U.S. on a map. (Excuse me………?)
- “In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country.” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, during a speaking engagement at Columbia University New York. (I wonder why they don’t have any…..?)
- “That’s some nappy-headed hos there.” Radio personality Don Imus referring to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. (Another example that no evil deed goes unrewarded)
- “I don’t recall.” Former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ repeated response to questions from Congress about the firing of U.S. Attorneys (sounds like the HRc “I don’t recall video” compiled by her detractors when discussing the finding of the “lost” Whitewater papers in her office and other matters, all of which the media didn’t seem to find as humorous as this Gonzales response…..hm…….)
- “There’s only three things he (Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani) mentions in a sentence: a noun and a verb and 9/11).” Senator Joe Biden (the man that graduated from the lowest quartile in his class and would be President.)
- “I’m not going to get into a name-calling match with somebody who has a 9 percent approval rating.” Harry Reid on VP Dick Cheney. (Harry….would you like to go over those percentages again?)
- “(I have) a wide stance when going to the bathroom.” Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig, explaining why his foot touched a police officer in the airport restroom. (And his hand signaled he was ready for action by reaching under the stall into the next stall…..ha.)
- “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” Senator Joe Biden, referring to Senator Barack Obama. (Wow……two entries from Mr. “C’s get degrees” himself all in one year.)
-
“I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history.” Former President Jimmy Carter, on the Bush administration. (Coming from the actual worst President in history (HERE) this must be some type of put on. I would rank this quote as number 1 for 2007.)
- “Don’t Tase Me, Bro” Andrew Meyer UF student as he was being hauled away by campus police during speech by Sen. John Kerry (Tin Soldiers and Kerry Coming…………)

I’m having a hard time deciding my favorite…number 2 or 6…
Brad………you’re too young to remember the significance of Carter first getting rid of the Shaw of Iran then letting them hold our hostages or over 400 days and then there I that misery index and the general malaise of the country as stated by Carter himself. He’s got a lot of nerve to blame Bush for the problems in the Middle East that he is practically single handedly responsible for and hurting us deeply through this day………steve
Yeah, good list. I agree that #1 and #10 should switch places, but I’m not even sure #1 should have made it on the list at all. #4 even more so. #2 is great, she managed to say a bunch without saying anything or making any sense at all. I predict she has a bright future in politics.
plodon…….yep, Carters quote will probably go down as the quote of the decade or century in my book because he is the worst and he knows it. Looking for a scapegoat. ……….steve
Um … I have to vote for number 1. Too much fun.
Hi Tammi…………Number 1 would definitely be on my list too. The only thing missing was Bill Richardson’s quote from his question by Melissa Ethridge on whether he thought Gay people were born or became Gay. It was a comedy act in itself as he tried to waltz all over the place in answering the question. Just a bit like Lauren Upton #2 above……steve
woohoo great list.. !HAPPY NEW YEAR TO U BUDDY AND YOUR WHOLE FAM!:)
Angel……..thanks and a happy one to you too! ………..steve
Benjamin Netenyahu had the classic putdown of Cater after one of Jimmy’s comments last year. ” We (Israelis) consider him to be a strange little man” - nothing cuts as much as being reminded that you are irrelevant.
Erston………Yeah, Benji has it right. He is a irrelevant and desperate man trying to cling to the world stage to try and vindicate himself. Did I mention that he orchestrated the fall of the Shah because he (Carter) was so noble. Look what that brought and nuclear war is threatened today because of it and he calls Bush the worst president, sheesh. I think we may be headed back to this type of executive thinking whether we get HRc, Obama or the Breck Girl……….steve
By far the best quote was from the Miss Teen USA contestant from South Carolina.
Bob……that was choice. Do you have the translation? …..steve
My favorite is quote number 10 from our nations perennial disgrace, Mr. Peanut himself.
Hey John…………You and me both buddy. This is an irony to the nth degree. The mere fact that any such loser Presidents would even raise the concept of “worst” administration is mind boggling………..steve
Read the quote though… really READ the quote.
You know what peanuthead is trying to say (that people hate Americans now more than ever) & he has a case!
He was speaking directly to that cause & not trying to make the case that “overall” Bushie & the gang are running last… Because surely Dubyas administration is not the worst “all around” in our countries history!
Bottom 10 - maybe even 5 - … sure.
M2………… “I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world…”
I think when Carter parses the record according to your interpretation to find a scenario in which he could assert the case that Bush 43 is the worst administration ever (and not his) it is patently dishonest. Even in the narrower analysis that you gleen, it is clear to me and others that Carter is still the worst. His own hand in the fall of the Shah alone qualifies this point. Carter had the worst economics short of the Depression, worst foreign policy in the Iranian situation from top to bottom alone and we are living in the deep deep water of its wake now. Then the audacity to even utter the words “worst administration ever” out of his (of all people’s) own lips smacks at being criminal. He should have slapped down the Iranians then. FDR, Truman, Nixon, Ford, Johnson, Kennedy, Clinton would have in the same situation and if they wouldn’t they would have had to been impeached like Carter should have been………… then for his amen chorus to divine that Gary Sick Blackbird SR-71 October Surprise scenario for the reason the Iranians held the hostages till inaguration day is a lie of monumental proportions trying to mislead the American people as to the truth and absolve Carter of Criminal Negligence. So, old honest Carter is not only the Worst Presidents of all time but now has become the biggest liar of all Presidents, including Clinton. ……..steve
Interesting work there, putting that list together.
In this, I find technology useful.
How nice not to have to try and remember it all.
It’s now at our reach digitally.
Thanks Barb………….actually I included this list from another, but the comments are mine.

Absolutely classic. Worth passing on, mind if I link?
Hi Ham, be my guest……….steve
