Hillary Takes the High Road

Isn’t this wonderful?  We finally have a political contest where one of the candidates has finally decided to take the high road and avoid mudslinging even if it would serve their political ambitions.  Wouldn’t you know it would take a woman to finally lift the bar.  Here, according to Robert Novak [the journalist that first wrote of the Valarie Plame affair that the media tried to cause you to believe (and probably successfully) that Cheney had leaked when it was actually Richard Armitage], you have Clinton operatives conveniently letting it be know that they had uncovered a scandal involving Barak Obama but have decided to not release the information nor even release the nature of the alleged scandal.

Phewwww……….Just to think that this woman has uncovered some secret information about her opponent and voluntarily decided not to release this information publicly.   I can only say that maybe she should release this information even if not to enhance her candidacy but because the electorate might have the right to know the “truth” about potential Presidential candidates before the election.  I don’t think HRc should set herself up as the gatekeeper of essential electoral information, do you?  Note the full article by Novak below.

The only thing that bothers me about this report is that if it were anyone but HRc I would wonder about the possibility of a campaign making up such a report out of thin air about anyone and then take the credit for taking the high road without ever having to prove or even assert the underlying facts while still causing the electorate to question the veracity of the candidate in question (in this case Barak).  In almost any other circumstance it would be very easy to make this up and slander someone by innuendo and look good for not spelling out the details.  But thankfully we know that this type of conduct is not something that anyone in the Clinton camp over the past 15 – 20 years would ever try to do.

Agents of Sen. Hillary Clinton are spreading the word in Democratic circles that she has scandalous information about her principal opponent for the party’s presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, but has decided not to use it. The nature of the alleged scandal was not disclosed.  This word-of-mouth among Democrats makes Obama look vulnerable and Clinton look prudent. It comes during a dip for the front-running Clinton after she refused to take a stand on New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s now discarded plan to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.  Experienced Democratic political operatives believe Clinton wants to avoid a repetition of 2004, when attacks on each other by presidential candidates Howard Dean and Richard Gephardt were mutually destructive and facilitated John Kerry’s nomination……Robert Novak

More deception from Team Hillary. Shocking!

Neil………What? You don’t believe this comes from the bottom of her heart in trying to provide a service to America by taking negative campaigning off the table. Like Plodon below, maybe she is setting the template for not wanting her evil past to be uncovered for her activites during the 8 years in the White House………steve

Wow. Hillary may be making one of the best political moves ever made. This is pure genius (now, whether that’s a display of evil genius or not might be another matter). Hillary is taking a huge liability for her (skeletons stacked in the closet and perhaps fresher things) and turning it into a great asset. This will be hugely popular. People want polititians to stop the mudslinging (a good idea). When Hillary sees how popular her “I’ve got something on Obama, but we are so Noble we will not reveal details” thing is , she’ll “take the high road” all the time (not because it’s right, but because it’s popular - note the latest example of “not taking a stand” on the NY illegal liscense thing [gee, d’ya suppose maybe a Senator of a state might at least take a position on policy matters in that state?]). This is a brilliant move. Highly opportunistic (from a politician, imagine!), but brilliant.

plodon………Pretty Smart……..but I doubt this will work with the electorate in the General Election………..steve

Clinton Camp Says It Has No Dirty Secrets About Obama After Columnist Bob Novak Suggests Alleged Scandal

plodon………I love this commment out of the Clinton camp the most:

Carson said Saturday that Obama chose to “parrot Republican talking points” in his statement on the Novak article.

“Bob Novak is a Republican columnist … a Democratic candidate should be smart enough not to fall into a trap he’s set for Democrats to go after each other,” he said. “If you don’t know how to avoid that in the primary, how are you going to avoid it in the general (election)?”

Now she is trying to dodge this cheap shot alltogether and blame it on the Republicans. HaHaHaHaHaHa……….steve

had an interesting conversation with a guy from the left. he mentioned that the gop loves to talk about the necessity of bush43 tax cuts to revive the economy from the mess clinton gave him in 2000. their counter was that the mess the next pres will get from bush43 is much worse because we have runaway federal spending, consumption in consumer markets, housing nightmares, a medical quagmire, falling dollar purchasing power and two endless military campaigns and talk of provoking a despot in iran. though the extent of the consequences may be debatable, the big question is the reality of the fragility of the economy that bsuh43 will leave his successor. dont you think that bush43 owes it to the next pres to clean some things off the table both domestically and internationally before the next one gets the white house? not saying that “HRc” is the best to take over, just wondering if bush43 has a desire to leave the house better than he got it?

oh, and in case anyone thinks this is out of context, it is clear that the drama on the left will be more than enough cannon fodder to prevent any clear political discussions of what to do next. i somewhat think this is “HRc”’s strategy to keep people thinking that she is the right person for the job. the obama thing jsut confirms it for me.

Hey Matt…………Well there is a lot here and a lot of nonsense surrounding and masking some real issues to discuss. First of all much of this is not Presidential Policy fallout. Much of the rest of this is consequence of Federal Spending that is the fault of the Presidency and both parties in congress. You could make the counter argument that the Stock Market is higher than the Clinton Market and rising, You could also counter with the fact that the economy is operating at a higher level than during the Clinton years. And I still find humor in the intellectual bankrupt position that denies that the last recession found its roots in the Clinton administration and that the tax cut was not responsible for turning it around. They are idiots.

The military campaigns are the product of a declaration of war and attack on this country by terrorist elements in many middle eastern nations with tacit support from some of these countries or kingdoms. Most of the Democrats voted for them to boot when it was politically popular to do so and those that seem to be reluctantly moving away from that support (such as HRc) seem to do it for politically expedient reasons as well. I guess he is also stating that whatever Iran does is fine with the Democrats. They are still in denial about the efficaciousness of the “surge” because it doesn’t suit their “politicization” of the war.

[As an off topic side note, with Ron Paul’s complaints about the war and his support for Afghanistan (I think) through Letters of Marquee and Reprisal (Help me here Patrick), I wonder what Paul would do if Congress actually declared a war in the Middle East in the terms he could understand and accept as having happened. It seems that his beef has been with this “illegal” war, yet he only accepts his personal “narrow” definition of a Congressional Declaration of War. I claim that the Constution doesn’t establish such deffinition and the act of Congress to attach Iraq therefore does indeed conform.]

The excess spending is one of the major flaws of the Bush administration, but I feel that he did so fatuously hoping for some type rapprochement with the Democrats. Although they were happy to oblige and spend the money of course the rapprochement never came. Evidence is now in the Democratic Congress where the proposed spending exceeds the Bush plan by something like $80 billion. I don’t think he can tag the Bush administration with this one in the least.

If you want to really comprehend the “fear factor” about a fragile economy, the largest single factor that might derail the economy is the Democrats promise (up and down the line) to increase taxes. I know it doesn’t fit in their political lexicon to admit that low taxes equal economic recovery and high taxes equal economic impairment, they should and need to get in touch with an Econ 101 class somewhere.

The Medical Quagmire, what ever that is is the same Medical System that we had through D & R administrations for decades. It is the same “quagmire” that Clinton left but is the best medical system in the world. Don’t know why they want to tag Bush with this.

Consumer spending…………maybe we should pass some Federal Laws that require individuals to petition their local politburo before they gain federal support for their spending plans. Same with housing. If there are abuses within the banking system, where is the Clinton legislation that would have prevented it.

These comments from your friend on the left are basically political talking points that obviously don’t scratch much of the surface as to depth of understanding. Not saying we don’t have problems nor problems that arose during the current administration, but this carping doesn’t address them nor even indicate they understand what is going on.

Much of the problems (economic, war & peace, dollar value, etc) can be traced back to oil prices. Supply and Demand indicates that the biggest problem there is supply. The Democrats have fought on “political” grounds for years obstructing solutions such as Anwar, Offshore, Nuclear and any other means except “bio” which itself will sink us economically and environmentally with the cost of food and pollutant runoff. It seems the only solution they actually claim to have on this front is to tax “big oil” into bankruptcy and to increase the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. Talk about denial, but I suppose it fills the spot in their “talking points” to boast about what they are doing about the problem. I defy anyone to show me how this gets better as a result of any one or combination of the Democratic candidates…………..steve

just wanted to say though that “HRc” will not be receiving a vote from me. she is really starting to give me the creeps more so than previously. that impact would lessen if she will release her yale thesis and other sensitive documents. m2 and others might call me paranoid, but i think she is a closet marxist.

Matt……….I’m with you here and she is essentially a 60’s radical marxist that is shape shifting to conform with what ever political winds dictate so she can obtain the scepter…….steve

  6. matt on November 19th, 2007

not denying that you have more elegant ways to counter the lefties i work with than me. mainly, i just listen, ask some well placed questions and try to understand their worldview. more and more, i do see compassion, but it runs counter to the realities of supply and demand.

back to your original post, whatever this info is that she is holding hostage, it might upset obama to the extent he would not run opposite her on a ticket. my gut feeling is that her hubris on ethics might be her downfall with voters on the fence. most christians i know who are on the fence are mostly turned off by mudslinging. if we could get an anti-mudslinging campaign from anyone, that could be the “golden goose”

Hi Matt……go back and re read my answer on your first comment about your liberal friend. I added an offtopic comment about Paul. She is backing off the fact that she had any infor on Obama. This will disseminate out about as far as the political wonk circle, but I suppose it will retain its desired effect with much of the larger voting public. Great spin here, blame it on the Republicans to re-establish her bonafides with Barak in case she wants to add him to a ticket to deliver a minority vote or something…….steve

Pretty funny peice over at DU (Top 10 Conservative idiots this week)…

Our Great Leader went on the offensive last week, blasting Democrats for reckless spending and accusing them of “acting like a teenager with a new credit card.”

Funny story though - according to the Washington Examiner:

Bush stuffs his budget with billions for pet projects very much like the ones he attacks when they originate on Capitol Hill, according to taxpayer groups and members of Congress.

“The president directs 20 times as much spending to special projects than the congress does,” House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., told The Examiner this week.

Democratic House and Senate appropriators point to page after page of specific projects requested by the president in the 2008 spending bills. The actual number, according to watchdog groups, is nearly impossible to tally, but Senate Democrats recently pointed to hundreds, including 580 worth $15.6 billion that Bush included in his appropriation request for military construction and veterans affairs.

The $31.6 billion energy and water spending bill also contains billions in direct spending on projects selected by the Bush administration.

Hmm. And that spending would include…?

    * $24 million on the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program

    * $8.9 million on the Points of Light foundation, Poppy Bush’s pet non-profit organization

    * $1 billion on the Reading First program (a program designed to illegally funnel taxpayer cash to Bush’s corporate cronies)

And I’m sure there was something else… what was it… it’s on the tip of my tongue.

    Oh yes…

    * $2 TRILLION ON BLOWING THE CRAP OUT OF IRAQ FOR NO REASON.

M2…………anything over at the DU about the Democrats upping the spending ante over Bush’s ridiculous spending? …………..steve

Conservative republican columnist stirring up drama among the dems… Wow… Real original…
& this just in, Obama took the bait.

It’s one thing for you to post on this silliness (expected, the desired Novak affect no doubt) but quite another for Obama to fall for it.
    Shows he’s a rookie… C’mon B.O., stay focussed… Ha Ha Ha Ha…

It’s a matter of timing and polling. If she needs to, she’ll use it. To me, she’s using it just by bragging that she’s not.

    Happy Thanksgiving Steve!

Sunflower if you don’t watch the news at least read the dag-gone comments before posting for cry out loud… It’s FABRICATED!
