John Edwards Takes on America’s SUV’s
Well here is another “Do as I say” from the cadre of Democratic Presidential contenders. I haven’t had much time to be active on NSL with the handling of my brother-in-laws estate and business affairs, but I just had to jump in on this one.
While speaking to a machinists labor group in Florida yesterday Edwards said that he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice, their Sports Utility vehicles. Isn’t this perfect? He also said: “I think Americans are actually willing to sacrifice,” and “one of the things they should be asked to do is drive more fuel efficient vehicles.”
You will notice the picture above where Edwards is just about to enter his own Ford Escape SUV. But don’t be alarmed, this is one of those hybrids, though not as environmentally friendly as the Prius. But those of you that have read NSL for a few months know that it has now been established that the Hybrids do more environmental damage than a Hummer. For those of you that missed it, check HERE. But we should give some grace to John since most all of the Democratic contenders seem to love the big rigs. Maybe al Gore can interest them in purchasing Carbon Offset Credits so they can accuse Americans of over indulging with impunity. For more on this story from the AP read this article from MSNBC HERE.
Bill Clinton Praises Bush
According to NewsMax.com Bill Clinton in an extensive interview by Conde Naste Traveler has offered praise for a number of GW Bush initiatives during the second term. I am not aware of any editorial bias of Conde Naste, but predictably another media outlet has decided to omit this favorable reflection on Bush from their “print edition” but I am told you can find these comments it on their website. I am going to reprint in full this report as covered by NewsMax below for your evaluation. Maybe I am a bit cynical, but I just don’t believe that had Clinton panned Bush in total that this interview would have reached print edition. Look over what Bubba had to say below:

UPDATE 8/26/2007: I wanted to add that nobody “took the bait” at least not yet. That bait was the first sentence of this post “Which readers of NSL have believed that the 2003 “Bush” tax cuts were a tax cut for the rich and have not served the “non-rich” (I won’t say poor)? Now I know that M2 has been temporarily pulled away from this blog for the most part along with his particularly acerbic comments on my posts, comments and comments of some of NSL’s readers, but common I would have thought somebody would have jumped in and said “see you are like the rest of the “fat cat” Republicans in that you don’t “see” (such as Hillary often states) the poor in America. My response is, Oh yeah, I see them, they just aren’t particularly germane to this discussion.
The reason for this is because the poor in America (and a lot of others) don’t pay income taxes at all. What I do see and see as pandering nonsense is the lefts proclivity to discuss tax policy in the United States through a prism which they see as some type of un-just treatment of the poor. Not only do the poor not pay taxes at all, the “working poor” actually get a refund (and not a small one) of taxes that they didn’t even pay to begin with through the Earned Income Tax (EIT). You would think that basic civil honesty would at least force these politicians to recognize to the population as a whole that this is basically welfare on the federal level and not tax policy.
As I have stated in other posts that the spending priorities of the country should be debated in Congress and the EIT is one that should stand on the merits of its own debate apart from the tax policy of the United States. This is just another way that the left continues to “confuse” voters with the question of good tax policy. I’ll assure you that the next time the tax code takes front and center stage in the debate on the policy of the United States that they (the left) use the Tax Code and it shaping as a campaign tool to insure their continued re-election.
The Democrats in Congress will not even mention the facts of this recent WSJ article (summarized below) as they continue to debate the question as though the evidence is not in already. They are the one’s that said in 2003 that the tax cut of Bush would not cause a recovery in the economy which was in recession, but would do further damage to it. Hmmm……… :-)
I am considering offering a reward for the first reader that will remind NSL after the next tax debate if the whole process ensues with any tacit acknowledgement by the Democrats (left leaning Democrats) that the statistical results are in and have proven their sloganeering and campaigning rhetoric wrong again. This is not a matter of conservative opinion, but of recorded fact………..read on……..
ORIGINAL POST: Which readers of NSL have believed that the 2003 “Bush” tax cuts were a tax cut for the rich and have not served the “non-rich” (I won’t say poor)? As a result of these tax cuts the burden of tax revenue has intensified on the “rich.” According to the Wall Street Journal HERE the statistics for 2004 are in and the Richest 1% paid 35.7% of all taxes based on income and without the 2003 tax cuts they would have paid only 30.5%. Loo-king Gooooood ………
Well, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke stepped up to the plate this morning around 8AM and essentially opened the “discount window” at the Federal Reserve Board. This may be a stroke of genius and Bernanke may prove to be one of Bush’s (43) most important legacies. This really caught everyone by surprise. Not so much because he acted, but that he acted in this way. Everyone was looking for (probably more like hoping for) a reduction in the target rate for the “overnight” loans banks take from each other, but “managed” by the Federal Reserve Board in targeting rates by effecting money supply. However, this is a subtler but maybe more genius solution for the moment. He moved it only ½ point, which still keeps it ½ point above the Federal Funds (overnight rate), but two things are important to consider. He still has another ½ point in his pocket or two ¼ moves and he essentially has made this tool available for a more stable infusion of capital into the skittish markets while it sorts itself out.
Previously the Discount Window was for overnight loans, but he has opened it up to 30 day loans with the possibility of additional time. This window is primarily for depositary instructions (banks, savings & loans) and on the surface may not seem to be in line to help the likes of Countrywide Mortgage, but with the Federal Reserve Board’s approval virtually anyone can borrow there and will accept practically any collateral versus what they will accept in “open market operations.” Banks are hesitant to use the Discount Window because it draws attention to them, but this action sort of legitimizes such approaches.
Wall Street seems to be liking this maneuver and at 9:00 AM before the stock market open the arithmetic mix of the Dow Jones Future Market and the Dow Jones “Fair Value” point to a market “opening” comfortably north of 200-250 points. This will be an interesting day for those that like to follow the stock market and Federal Reserve and this is on the heels of yesterdays bizarre trading. I haven’t yet received any comments about my post HERE on the record stock market of 14,000 on July 22nd with the anticipated “see, what do you know, the market is risky” comments, but I am looking forward to them. Such comments would be doomed to fall in the same trap the Democratic Leadership has waded into every time the market has been down this past 15 years. If you have lost money in your 401-K’s this month, hang in there. It may take a few more months to work its way out, but the long-term bias will remain up.
Hillary Playing Hide N’ Seek Again
What ever happens in the election in 2008, lets just be sure that the voters make their decision based on a “lock up” of the record of Hillary Clinton. Sort of a “don’t ask don’t tell” program to mislead the voters. Probably the left would see the public dissemination of her record to be an invasion of her privacy anyway. The Clinton library has declared according to an LA Times article by Peter Nicholas HERE that the records won’t be available to the public until after the 2008 election (isn’t that special). For goodness sake we (the Clintons) certainly don’t want what we have done with the power of the Presidency to figure in to the evaluation of her suitability. I can’t believe what a sucker the left hand side of the voting public is for Hillary’s constant re-shaping of the facts.
I’ll just bet that this decision is based on the fact that she called out Obama on his statement to not use Nukes as being too unsophisticated and knowledgeable for the job (Presidency) all while it was later revealed that she had said essentially the same thing. I’m betting that a calculation has been made that she wants a free fire zone during the campaign without the possibility that she can be caught in her lies and duplicity at least as it pertains to official presidential records. Every time she gets political pressure she shifts her views without blinking to accommodate as many voters as possible, predominately on the left. Who in the adult community sees this as a credible candidate to any degree?
A Little Insight to Character Here….
This is not an endorsement for or against the candidacy of Republican Mitt Romney. However, this Iowa frontrunner, (seems like the 2nd tier candidates are dominating there), demonstrated some interesting leadership in this 1996 incident. I think it might be “good reading” if you want to take the time. Little insight to character here……….. I guess he has at least one mans vote.
By Ronald Kessler Mitt Romney was faced with a crisis in July 1996. The 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner in Romney’s new venture capital firm, Bain Capital, had disappeared. As it turned out, she had attended a rave party in New York City and had become high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was.
Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to try to find Gay’s daughter.
Romney set up a command center in a conference room at the Read more
As it turns out the Daily KOS is “the man”
File this in your “do as I say………..file.” From the Drudge Report HERE referencing the New York Times we come to find some shady illegal stock insider activity by one of the founders of the Daily KOS. This is activity that is only suitable for Republicans don’t you remember? He neither denies nor admits the charges, but apparently was willing to pay $30,000 to settle the problem. I guess sort of a Nolo Contendere on the order of Spiro Agnew. At least Spiro had the decency to step down as Vice President. Wonder if he will do the same with the KOS or MYDD.com? This is in addition to last years scandal involving KOS in an alleged Pay to Play scheme with Democratic Candidate hiring the KOS boys as political consultants HERE for KOS support of candidacies.
DAILY KOS CO-AUTHOR FINED $30,000 FOR UNETHICAL STOCK TOUT.
Prominent liberal blogger Jerome Armstrong has agreed to pay nearly $30,000 in fines in a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission over allegations that Armstrong touted the stock of a software company, without disclosing that he was being paid to do so, the New York Times reports.
Armstrong is the co-author of Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-Powered Politics, with Markos Moulitsas of Daily Kos. He is also the founder of the Democratic activist site MyDD.com.
Under the agreement, Armstrong neither denies nor admits to the allegations. “It is good to see the matter finally end,” Armstrong said in an e-mail message to the TIMES.
I Didn’t Say it, Dick Did
I didn’t say it, but I thought I’d pass it along because it about says it all concerning Hillary. This is from Clinton’s political advisor during much of the presidential years, Dick Morris………….. Note Update at bottom of post (follow link)
DICK MORRIS’ ‘08 PLAY-BY-PLAY ANALYSIS!
BILL CLINTON LEAVES TRUTH OUT OF HILLARY’S BIOGRAPHY(Dick Morris should know what the Clintons did - he worked for them long enough.)
DICK SAYS: Go HERE and check out Bill Clinton’s syrupy five minute ad for Hillary. He introduces the commercial by saying that he wants to share some things we may not know about Hillary’s background. His version of her biography is about as reliable as if it appeared in Pravda! So, I wanted to make a few corrections, AS FOLLOWS:
Bill says: Hillary never wanted to run for public office, but she did want to work at public service.
The facts are: When Clinton was considering not running for another term as Governor of Arkansas in 1990, Hillary said she would run if he didn’t. She and Bill even had me take two surveys to assess her chances of winning. The conclusion was that she couldn’t win because people would just see her as a seat warmer for when Bill came back licking his wounds after losing for president. So she didn’t run. Bill did and won. But there is no question she had her eye on public office, as opposed to service, long ago.

Bill says: In law school Hillary worked on legal services for the poor.
The facts are: Hillary’s main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers, on trial Read more
Should You Care about CAIR?
I almost added a tag to the title above, however it was too long, but it went like this: “Should You Care about CAIR? …………. Who cares, Bush Lied (didn’t he)? I’ll just start by saying up front that CAIR (acronym for the Council on American-Islamic Relations pronounced care) is an American Islamic terrorism sympathizer and supporter at the least. I believe that any balanced perspective this group concludes that they are Anti-American liars and terrorism apologists. Even internally their membership rolls have dwindled to extremely financially unstable levels. [Okay, now those of you that tend to automatically debate any sober and realistic view of the radical quarters of Islam can begin sharpening your pencils because it is by far more important to try and justify your hate for the Bush administration on any point than to grid yourselves for the battle we confront against the terrorist organizations of the world.]
Why do I say this? You may just think of my musings as some type of racial or more accurately religious prejudice. I wondered about that myself and after some soul searching I have concluded that Read more
Obama Draws a Bright Line for our Enemies to See.
PR Inside dot com is reporting HERE that Senator Barack Obama elicits the wrath of other Democratic candidates by stating flat out that he would not use Nuclear Weapons to fight terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan under any circumstances including tactical theater defensive weaponry. Democratic Senators Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Chris Dodd were correct to criticize such careless references to the potential U.S. posture on these issues. So what does this mean? Well lets examine it here. I am sure our enemies are examining it.
If al Qaeda managed to get a suitcase nuke into New York City and detonate it and it killed lets say 500,000 to 1,000,000 American civilians Barack wouldn’t even consider retaliation on the Taliban and al Qaeda to try and root out their leadership. As a consequence of this telegraphed posture any country such as N. Korea or Iran (when they have the bomb that Barack Obama would tolerate) could funnel a nuclear bomb to terrorists to use on U.S. soil and they could do so with no fear of reprisal (at least nuclear) from Obama. I don’t think this guy is ready for prime time……..
